Living to please God

How to please God

We were created to bring God glory in everything we do. We are here on earth as temporary ambassadors for God's Kingdom, so how we live our lives must please God.

Rejoice, Pray and Give Thanks constantly

"Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

We can't please God unless we have a relationship with him. When we are in constant communication with God internally in joyful prayer with thanksgiving, we please Him. In life there is always something to be thankful for. Let us be still and quiet, allowing our spirits to connect with God's Holy Spirit, as this will please God.

Study the Word

"You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus." (2 Timothy 3:15)

Through the bible, we gain wisdom by viewing life through God's eyes. Only God can show us the right path to take in life, the path that will please him.
"The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple." (Psalms 19:7)

God's word gives us the ability and power to resist worldly wisdom, temptations, and our own self-seeking desires. The wisdom we share with others should reflect God's wisdom, not worldly wisdom.

Speak love

"Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them." (Ephesians 4:29)

We quite often underestimate the power of our words. Words have the ability to both build and tear down. Because our words can cause harm to others, we are commanded to use them wisely to bring healing rather than destruction.

Our lives should reflect who we are in Christ. Because our words reflect what is in our hearts, our words of anger, doubt, deception, gossip and slander must be confronted and corrected as soon as possible. We need God's help to ensure that our words are righteous, loving, controlled, and full of grace and mercy, because they should reflect God. We are to live godly and innocent lives in order to please God avoiding unwholesome talk. Our words should be used to help others, to provide encouragement or the truth of God, and to add value to those who hear them. In conclusion, our words should be useful, necessary, and beneficial.

Please God not man

Our purpose in life is to do what pleases God rather than what pleases man, no matter how unpopular that stance may be. We will face much opposition if we do what God asks of us, but God encourages us not to be afraid of man. We should value God's opinion of us more than what other people think of us. God's spirit, who dwells within us, encourages us to live a godly life in a wicked, chaotic world.
"Do not be afraid of them who kill the body. They are not able to kill the soul. But fear Him Who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28)
Don't follow the pattern of the world because we are not of this world.
"You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else." (Ephesians 2:2-3)
We are here on earth for a limited time to learn about God and His love and to share that knowledge with others.
"I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do." (John 17:14-16)
So, let us please God and not man.
"For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts." (1 Thessalonians 2:4)

Lean on God

The more we rely on God, the more He helps us. Trying to make things happen on our own without relying on God is futile. Without God's assistance, our efforts result in frustration, disappointment, worry, and anxiety. God does not do everything for us, but neither can we do anything without Him. We please God when we commit all of our plans to Him.

"Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good." (Psalm 127:1)

Everything falls into place when we lean on God with our worries, plans, dreams, and day-to-day lives. We can do nothing without God, so let us give our worries to Him, and He will take care of us.
"Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)
