Bible Verses to help overcome worldly addictions

ADDICTION

As long as we live on earth, there will always be an attraction to the things of this word. Due to the fact that we live in a corrupt world that despises godliness, we must remain vigilant and persistent in our prayers for all believers everywhere. As believers we are called to pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion so as not to fall into temptation as a result of our sinful nature.

"Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere." Ephesians 6:18

Believers may battle with a variety of addictions, including those to food, social media, drugs, alcohol, pornography, and sex, to name a few. Through the power of his spirit, Christ has freed us from the yoke of our materialistic cravings. Here are a few scriptures that can help us fight addiction.

"You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything."

"Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts."

Romans 12:2
"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world."

1 Corinthians 10:13
"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

Galatians 5:19-21
"When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God."

James 4:4
"You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God."

1 Corinthians 10:31
"So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Colossians 3:2
"Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth."

1 Thessalonians 4:4
"Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor"
