The Peace of God

The Peace of God

Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). By His mere presence in our lives, He bestows peace on His people. His will for us is that we live in His peace, free from the worries and cares of this world. God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us. So that when we face adversity, we can lean on Him and receive His peace, which will keep us strong and secure through hardships.

"I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid." John 14:27

Everyone will face difficulties at some point in their lives. But as God's children, we have a mighty warrior on our side who walks alongside us, fights our battles, and comforts us. We are held together not by our own strength, but by His. As a result, difficulties should not deter us from our goal of living in His will. Hardships should strengthen our faith, causing us to become firmly rooted as we trust in His mighty power, remembering that God is our ultimate source of strength and peace.

"The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace." Psalms 29:11

Anxious Minds

God spoke to the children of Israel during their exodus from Egypt and conquests of many wars to inherit the land that He had prepared for them in ancient times. In Deuteronomy 28:65-67, He warned them about the consequences of disobeying Him:

"There among those nations you will find no peace or place to rest. And the Lord will cause your heart to tremble, your eyesight to fail, and your soul to despair. Your life will constantly hang in the balance. You will live night and day in fear, unsure if you will survive. In the morning you will say, ‘If only it were night!’ And in the evening you will say, ‘If only it were morning!’ For you will be terrified by the awful horrors you see around you." Deuteronomy 28:65-67

Anxiety and despair are just two of the emotions that many people experience today because they are not right with God. Peaceful living, favor, and success are the rewards for obeying God's wisdom. But you can never know true rest without God. To know God and be right with Him is to know peace.  His peace is beyond human logic. He brings us peace in situations that would otherwise frighten and worry us. This peace guards our hearts and minds against worry and anxiety.

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

There is peace within us because we know that God is always working for our good, even when we don't understand, and that His ways are higher than ours.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9

Believe and Trust God

We choose to accept peace into our lives by accepting the Son of God, The Prince of Peace. Let us then choose to trust and believe that God is in full control and that He bestows His perfect peace on those He calls His children. Let us fill our minds with God's truth (His word) so that we can shift our perspective from focusing on life's storms to enjoying His peace in the midst of them. Our physical sight is limited, His word can open the eyes of our hearts to see things from His perspective. Let us put our faith in Him because He cares for us.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!" Isaiah 26:3
