The Promises of God

Our Heavenly Father has promised salvation, provision, protection, freedom from sin, and many other blessings to those who believe in Jesus Christ. God is always trustworthy. He does exactly what He says! What He promises, He keeps!!

He always hears our prayers and watches over us, meeting our spiritual and physical needs, even when we don't see it right away. His promises are in His word, and they help us to live godly lives in the hope of reigning with God forever.

"And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires." 2 Peter 1:4

1 - God is faithful to his promises

"Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands."

Joshua 21:45
"Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true."

Hebrews 13:8
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

Numbers 23:19
"God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?"

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
"Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful."

2 - God promises eternal life with Him

Everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as God's son and believes in His death and resurrection receives eternal life as a gift from God. This world will pass away, but each person's spirit will live on, either reigning with God the creator or being banished to hell, prepared for the devil and his angels.

John 3:16
"For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

1 John 2:25
"And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us."

1 John 5:13
"I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life."

Titus 1:2
"This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began."

3 - God promises us inner peace

The world is full of ups and downs. We can live in this chaotic world while experiencing God's inner peace if we have God's Spirit dwelling within us.

Isaiah 26:3
"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!"

John 14:27
"I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid."

John 16:33
"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."

Philippians 4:6-7
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

4 - God will never abandon us

We are never alone!  Whatever our emotions and feelings tell us, we can be confident in God's promise to always be with us.  We can walk in this truth by faith rather than sight or feelings.

Joshua 1:9
"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Matthew 28:20
"Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Psalm 27:10
"Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close."

Psalms 139:7
"I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!"

5 - God has a good plan for our lives

God has control over our lives. He has thoughtful plans for each of his children. His plan for us is for peace in the midst of chaos, for faith to triumph over fear, and for truth to triumph over lies.

Ephesians 2:10
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."

Psalms 138:8
"The Lord will work out his plans for my life— for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me."

Jeremiah 29:11
""For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.""

1 Corinthians 2:9
"That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”"

Philippians 1:6
"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."

6 - God promises to guide us

God promises to always guide us to make decisions that are aligned to His will. For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13) He works within us to infuse in us a desire to do and pursue what pleases him, so that we naturally make good decisions for our lives and future.

Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

Psalms 32:8
"The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.""

Psalms 48:14
"For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die."

Isaiah 48:17
"This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.""

7 - God promises hope to those who trust in Him

"I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."

Romans 15:4
"Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled."

1 Peter 1:3-4
"All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay."

Psalms 62:5-6
"Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken."

8 - God promises to empower us with Inner strength

God understands that there comes a time when we are emotionally and physically exhausted by daily life and simply need God to rekindle our passion and renew our strength.

Isaiah 40:31
"But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

Isaiah 40:29
"He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless."

Ephesians 3:16
"I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit."

Isaiah 41:10
"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."

"I will steady him with my hand; with my powerful arm I will make him strong."

Philippians 4:13
"For I can do everything through Christ, through the one. who gives me strength."

9 - God promises wisdom to those who seek Him

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.

James 1:5
"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking."

Proverbs 2:6-7
"For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity."

Psalms 19:7
"The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple."

Ephesians 1:16-17
"I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God."

10 - God promises to shield us from wicked schemes

Trust God to protect you from schemers, even if they take careful precautions not to be caught and to cause you harm craftily and secretly.

Psalm 34:7
"For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him."

Proverbs 2:7
"He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity."

Proverbs 26:26
"While their hatred may be concealed by trickery, their wrongdoing will be exposed in public."

Proverbs 29:25
"Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety."

11 - God promises to deliver us when we need help

"In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles."

"God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."

"Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory."

Psalms 91:15
"When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them."

12 - God promises to always love us

God's love never fails. His love is unlimited, unconditional and complete.

Romans 8:35-38
"Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us."

"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, Greek nor rulers. neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love."

"No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Jeremiah 31:3
"Long ago the Lord said to Israel:
"I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.""

Ephesians 3:16-19
"I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is."

"May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God."

1 John 4:9-10
"God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins."

Ephesians 2:4-5
"But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)"

13 - God promises to provide for our needs

God is aware of our physical and spiritual needs and has promised to meet them. But we must not confuse our needs with things we simply want and desire to have.

He says in James 4:2-3 "You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure."

Philippians 4:19
"And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."

2 Peter 1:3-4
"By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desire."

Psalms 23:1
"The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need."

2 Corinthians 9:8
"And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others."

14 - God promises to bring good out of suffering

The world's comforts have a way of capturing our attention and affection and diverting our attention away from God. We refocus on God in our suffering because we are desperate for Him. We have the most intimate relationship with God when we are suffering because we need Him in our lives.

2 Corinthians 4:17
"For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!"

James 1:2-4
"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing."
The Bible is full of many more of God's promises. Read his word and claim your promises today!
"Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come." Jeremiah 33:3
